In this post we look at an MPLS QoS mode often used when the SP manages the CE devices and therefore controls the QoS settings between them. Uniform mode is considered end-to-end because

the EXP value is copied from the IP Precedence (IPP) value on ingress, and vice versa on egress. Any changes made to the EXP value may result in the IPP value being different when it exits the cloud than it was entering it.

IS-IS: Optimizing the Route Table

August 24th, 2009

For many service provider networks, the only addresses that need to be in the route table are those of the loopback addresses for the P and PE devices. IS-IS makes this policy very easy to implement with the use of the “advertise passive-only” command under the router isis configuration mode.

Consider a  network of 3 devices: PE1, P1 and PE2. PE1 has the following configuration:

Who is Joe Astorino?

August 23rd, 2009

Gang,

Since my announcement in which I introduced Joe Astorino as a newly added instructor, we’ve received many calls asking “What type of an instructor is Joe Astorino?” and or “What are Joe’s classes like?” Obviously, over nearly a decade of success, here at IPexpert, teaching CCIE candidates, (and as the owner of the world’s largest list of success stories!) – it’s safe to say that we’ve got our CCIE training methodology down! However, to answer those questions – I was given an article that was written by a previous student. This student has an extensive amount of history and experience and has probably taken nearly every CCIE R&S class on the globe (well, at least the ones that truly count!). *Note: This student has NO AFFILIATION with IPexpert and was not asked by anyone at IPexpert to write this article. Also, as a “sidenote” – I’ve already been able to speak with this student directly (several times) and have already started working on a few minor *tweaks* that will make our industry-leading courses even better! For those wondering who Joe is – and what his teaching style consists of, read on…..
