Cisco Certified Network Associate – Service Provider (CCNA SP) focuses on Service Provider industry core networking technologies and trends, and attempts to validate the ability to configure and implement baseline Cisco Service Provider networks.

There are no prerequisites for this certification.

In order to obtain the certification – the following two exams must be passed:

640-875 Building Cisco Service Provider Next-Generation Networks, Part 1 (SPNGN1) Exam

90 minutes (65-75 questions)

IP Networks

• Describe the purpose and functions of various network devices (at the core, distribution, and access layers)
• Identify the functional components required to meet a given network specification
• Describe the OSI and TCP/IP models and their associated protocols to explain how data flows in a network
• Describe common network applications and their impact on the network
• Interpret network diagrams
• Troubleshoot common network problems at layers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 using a layered model approach
• Describe differences between LAN and WAN operation and features

IPv4 and IPv6 Addressing

• Describe the structure of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
• Describe VLSM, CIDR and route summarization concepts
• Describe the different types of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
• Design an IP subnetting plan based on given requirements

Long awaited updates to CCNA Security and the CCNP Security have finally hit. Here is a rundown of what has currently changed.

CCNA Security

The Implementing Cisco IOS Network Security (IINS) 1.0 course and exam have been updated to version 2.0.  The version 1.0 exam, 640-553 IINS, features a last day to test of September 30, 2012. The new exam is 640-554 IINS and is available now.

CCNP Security

There are two changes to the CCNP Security track. The FIREWALL course and exam have been updates to version 2.0, and the VPN course and exam have been updated to 2.0.

The FIREWALL 1.0 exam, 642-617 FIREWALL, features a last day to test of May 28, 2012. The new exam is 642-618 FIREWALL and is available now.

The VPN 1.0 exam, 642-647 VPN, features a last day to test of May 28, 2012. The new exam is 642-648 VPN and is available now.
