Over the last few days, the CCIE community has been buzzing about the dreaded open ended questions (OEQs) being removed from the R&S and Voice tracks. Unfortunately, until now there has been no “official” word — Only hearsay from a Cisco conference call on improving the CCIE program that occurred recently. Well, the wait is over. IP EVENT DAMPENING USING 7TH GRADE MATH

IP Event Dampening is much like it’s close relative BGP dampening. The primary difference is that with IP Event Dampening, the values you enter are defined by much shorter times …. seconds rather than minutes. Also, with IP Event Dampening, you have the option of a restart penalty so that when the router reloads it will assess a penalty to the interface.

Tonight we will be discussing the often misunderstood topic of EIGRP metric and K-Values. how exactly is the metric calculated? What ARE the K values? What are they used for? Perhaps more importantly, we will discuss what K-Values are NOT as this is almost always misunderstood especially because much of the information out there is wrong.
