Starting August 15th, 2011, Core Knowledge section, also known as Open Ended Questions, will be removed from all CCIE Security lab exams. Cisco posted the official announcement on Cisco Learning Network, which can be found by clicking here (Cisco login may be required to access the document). This does not change the blueprint for the CCIE Security lab exam. All topics remain the same, but more time is available for hands-on work. Previously, with these questions, up to 30 minutes of the lab time was assigned to this section.
Even though Open Ended Questions are no longer part of the exam, preparing for the lab as if they were part of it is a very good approach. Fundamental understanding of technology and all blueprint topics from a theoretical perspective can only help your success in the lab.
We will be updating our Workbooks and Detailed Solution Guides at the beginning of August to account for the absence of the Core Knowledge section from the exam.
Happy studies!
