Phone view is a feature that can be enabled on Cisco Unity Connection (CUC) in order to allow users to view voicemail messages on the screen of an IP Phone which is registered to UCM. The feature can be invoked once the voicemail user has successfully signed into their CUC mailbox (through the voice menu)- option “5″ is presented to the user as an option to “find new messages”. Users can then select the desired option such as display all messages or display all messages from outside callers. At this stage a list of all messages that match the search criteria appear on the IP Phone.

The CUC server requires the credentials of a Application user configured within UCM which has been assigned to the group “Standard CCM Admin Uses”- this user inside UCM must have Device Association to all phones which require the use of the PhoneView Service.

Within the CUC server enable Phone View and take a note of the username and set the password.

From the UCM Admin GUI add the Application User from the User Management > Application User menu.

The final step is to enable Phone View for a user or user template within the CUC server. From the CUC Admin GUI, from Users > <Select User> or Templates > User Templates > voicemail user template go to Edit > Phone Menu and enable Phone View as shown below.

Verify Phone View by leaving a couple of voice mails for a specific user. From the user which has new voice mails, dial into the CUC Voicemail pilot from the phone which has the voice mail account created (MWI should be lit) and sign-in using the appropriate PIN. Select option “5″ and option “4″ to display all new messages. The screen of the IP Phone should display all voicemails for this particular user as shown below. The user is able to select the appropriate message in order for it to be played back.

    Vik,
This is great post. I always found a way to make Visual Voicemail on CUE, but now will try on CUC.

    Thank you

  4. Vik,

I went through all the steps but my phone doesn’t display the Phone View information. When I dial into Unity Connection and press 5 I have options for pressing 1 for internal callers, 2 for outside callers, 3 for specific callers, or 0 for help. There is no option 4.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Mark,

I ran into the same problem many times, and what I have done was go back to the Edit > Phone Menua and Unchecked \Enable Phone View\, Saved, then Checked it again, Saved. This workaround always work for HQ phones, but not on BR1, for some reason.

    Hope that help.

    Hi Tam Nhu,

I’ve the identical issue as you,in which the PHVIEW for hqphone is working fine, but not for br phone. The system just response with “there is an error for displaying your msg…Please contact your administrator…”.I’m thinking could it be relate to the site issue? (device pool, codec,…)
Did you manage to resolve yours?

    Experts,

Experiencing same issue as Mark, no option 4 available to display msgs on phone when press 5.
Unchecking and checking back “Phone View” does not do it either.

    Thoughts??

    Cheers,
