Many of you may have followed the most recent Ask The Expert – CCIE Voice discussion on the Cisco Support forum (Netpro). In this discussion it was mentioned that VPIM, DNS and Active Directory could potentially be part of the Voice Lab. As a lab candidate, this means that you should be prepared for VPIM messaging between the Unity Connection server and the Unity Express module as well as integration between Active Directory and CUCM, CUPS, Unity Connection or UCCX.
Strictly speaking VPIM has always been something that candidates have had to address (even in the CCIE-V v2 blueprint) but a DNS server being made available to a candidate makes this topic much more important.
The likelihood is that the DNS and AD servers will be pre-configured and your responsibilities will be focused on the configuration and troubleshooting of the appropriate Cisco Unified Communications appliance.
In response to this discussion we have recently added a pre-configured Active Directory server to be accessible to 25 Proctor Labs Voice Pods. In addition we have obtained a VPIM license for the Unity Connection server as well as a pre-configured DNS server. The IPexpert CCIE Voice Volume 2 already contains certain VPIM related tasks (in Lab 2) however we are in the process of enhancing our CCIE Voice Workbook to cover these additional topics in more detail. Please stay tuned for more updates.
